UCANR Apple Taste Test

Post by Oolie » 10 Nov 2019, 22:49

I don't know if anyone was able to make it, but there was a tasting I missed in Irvine, where they have been testing what were assumed to be Moderate-Chill apples in a low-chill environment.

Ah thanks for posting this! I have to pay closer attention! Would have liked to go to that! Do you think we have enough people locally growing apples to have an apple tasting of our own? Our trees have grown tremendously and next year if we can save them from the gophers we may have a large enough amount, but they are still in development. I have Aunt Rachel, Fuji, Red Fuji, Sommerfeld, Gala, Akane, King David, Pettingil, Williams Pride, Crimson Gold, Whitney Crab, King David, Sundowner, Pink Lady, Williams Pride, Wickson, Lady Williams. I have some rootstock right now I am hoping to graft some more onto this season. I'm especially interested in Pink flesh and cider apples. We have been getting apples from many of these. If you check out Kevin Hauser's list, it might inspire you.http://www.kuffelcreek.com/applelist.htm

I have some experience with gophers, I will cross-post the info I have spread on other boards regarding my experiences.

Here is the info I mentioned.
